Healthy Food, Healthier Future Project

This project works with the health care sector to increase access to safe, healthy, affordable foods in Detroit while restoring the infrastructure to support local/ regional, sustainable foods. Currently, the Ecology Center participates in the Detroit Food & Fitness Collaborative Food Systems Work Group and meets regularly with hospitals in the city to support their healthy food initiatives.
The Detroit Agriculture Network, Earthworks Garden/Capuchin Soup Kitchen, The Greening of Detroit, Michigan State University and many other organizations have teamed up to help provide access and educational opportunities to gardeners of all kind. Community and backyard gardens play an important role in the City of Detroit. They provide fresh, nutritious produce for Detroit families and improve communities by connecting neighbors, improving property values and reducing crime.
