Michigan is in a unique place to revitalizate its economy, protection its natural resources, and improve the health of our state; we are the second most agriculturally diverse state in the nation. By reemphasizing our local and regional food systems, alongside the national and global ones, we have an opportunity to create a system based on good food in Michigan and achieve a healthier, more prosperous and more equitable state. Michigan residents and institutions have this opportunity to assist our state in so many ways. The Michigan Good Food Charter presents a vision for Michigan’s food and agriculture system and outlines 25 agenda priorities for the next 10 years.
Our program partners with this national work group to ask hospital to utilize their purchasing power to signal to the marketplace that they support the development of a local, sustainable agricultural sector, thereby supporting economic development and improving public health. You can listen to an overview video by HCWH's Director and Founder, Gary Cohen, or review resources for getting started and planning and tracking your hospitals progress. This national work group also conducts a biennial Healthy Food in Health Care Survey and Awards Program to give hospitals a chance to report their progress, benchmark their work to other hosptials across the nation and offer national leaders recognition for their hard work.
