The Ecology Center has been a key player in both state and federal efforts to reduce the negative environmental impacts of the automotive transportation sector by advocating for policies and consumer actions to increase vehicle fuel efficiency, as well as to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles (EV’s).  Vehicle electrification is recognized by many experts as an essential component to achieving deep reductions in carbon emissions by 2050.

In late 2016, the Ecology Center joined with other environmental and clean energy organizations to create Charge Up Midwest, a campaign focused on supporting actions to accelerate the adoption of EV’s across the Midwest region. The Ecology Center acts as the coordinator of this campaign.

Charge Up Midwest seeks to engage with a broad range of stakeholders to support actions that increase investment in electric vehicle infrastructure, create a more resilient and low-carbon grid, expand education of the public and policymakers about the benefits of electric vehicles, and otherwise accelerate the production, sales, and access to electric vehicles in the region for all Midwest citizens.

In Michigan, the Ecology Center has created and coordinates Built By Michigan, a campaign that seeks to educate policy makers and the public at-large on the benefits of electric vehicles both to the environment and to Michigan’s economy.  You can Sign Up for BBM’s monthly newsletter to stay up-to-date on all of the EV tech and policy going on in Michigan.

We urge Michigan policymakers to continue their support of Michigan’s emerging electric vehicle and advanced battery industry by enacting policies that encourage the purchase and increased use of electric vehicles. We are committed to working with Michigan’s utility companies and other stakeholders to build a reliable statewide EV charging network that will ensure Michigan is a leader in transformative, innovative, zero emission vehicles.
