Sign up to Host a Home Safe Home Party

Wondering what's in your stuff, how to protect your family from toxic chemicals in everyday products, and what to do about it? Host a Home Safe Home Party! All you have to do is get a group of 8-15 people together, find a location (your house, work, school, church, etc), and pick a time - we'll do the rest. It's a fun way to get involved, learn how to protect your health and take action. We have four sessions to choose from:

Our Toxic Stuff

What's the connection between our health and our stuff, like our furniture, electronics, and children's products? Many of our everyday products contain formaldehyde, toxic flame retardants, and other chemicals linked to cancer, reproductive problems, and cognitive impairments. We'll explore the chemicals in our everyday products, their health effects, and how you can reduce your exposure. We'll bring our XRF device with us, which immediately detects toxic chemicals in consumer products, so you can bring in any children's products, pet toys, or other household items you'd like tested for toxic chemicals.

Keeping it Green While You Clean

Recent studies have shown that indoor air is typically 2-5 times more polluted than outdoor air and one important source of indoor air pollution comes from the toxic chemicals in our cleaning products. The chemicals found in many cleaning products have been linked to asthma, cancer, and hormone disruption. This workshop uncovers the dangers of toxic cleaning products and empowers participants to minimize exposures by changing the way we clean. We'll provide recipe cards and everything you need to make your own cleaning products from safer ingredients like baking soda and vinegar.

Not So Pretty

Personal care products and cosmetics smell fantastic, come in fancy bottles, and promise to keep us clean, healthy, and looking beautiful. But, what's really in these products? Too often, they contain harmful chemicals linked to neurotoxicity, infertility, and cancer - there is nothing clean, healthy, or beautiful about that! Fortunately, there are ways to protect our health and take action. We'll provide you with great resources and tips on how to choose safer products.

What's Bromine Doing in My Burger?

Most of us know the importance of a healthy diet. Yet, much of our food is highly processed or tainted by growth hormones, antibiotics, and even toxic chemicals. For instance, many of our Great Lakes fish are contaminated by PCBs (Polychlorinated Biphenyls) and mercury, making some fish unsafe for children and pregnant women. During this workshop, we'll explore toxic chemicals in our food system and their health effects. We'll provide tips on how to reduce exposure and you'll leave with fun, easy, and delicious recipes!
