Clean Energy Now Global warming is the most significant environmental and humanitarian emergency that our planet has ever faced, and the Governor's leadership is critical at this pivotal moment in our fight.

Sign the petition below and urge the Governor to continue her leadership in the fight against climate change by issuing an executive order that prevents the permitting of more coal plants until stronger protections are put in place against dangerous global warming carbon dioxide pollution.

 

Governor Jennifer Granholm, halt new coal plant construction until global warming protections are in place!

We, the undersigned, urge Governor Jennifer Granholm to use her executive power to require the impact of global warming pollution to be evaluated, alongside health effects of pollution, in the Department of Environmental Quality’s coal plant permit application process.

To reach the Governor’s laudable renewable energy goals for Michigan and to decrease the emission of carbon dioxide (CO2), we call on Governor Granholm to direct the Department of Environmental Quality to regulate CO2 emissions from coal-fired power plants and other operations as a global warming pollutant in all future air quality decisions. Global warming is the most significant environmental and humanitarian emergency that has ever faced our planet, so it is imperative that Governor Granholm act to prevent the location of new coal-fired power plants in Michigan. Michigan must play a leading role in reducing emissions of CO2, a significant cause of global warming.
