Healthy Stuff has had the honor of Andrea Cruz as an intern for the last year and a half. Andrea is moving on from our research assistant to teach a course at the University of Michigan in toxicology. During the summer, she obtained funding through the Mary Beth Doyle fund to continue working at the Ecology Center. Mary Beth Doyle committed her life to the environment and worked at the Ecology Center for several years.
Andrea is originally from the San Gabriel Valley in California. She completed her Bachelor's in environmental toxicology at the University of California, Davis in 2016. Andrea is currently pursuing my Master's of Science in toxicology at the University of Michigan's School of Public Health. Her thesis is about glutathione depletion and oxidative stress in mouse embryos. Upon graduation in Spring 2018, she hopes to continue working in a research lab and, in a few, years, pursue a Ph.D.
Andrea has enjoyed her time working in the Healthy Stuff lab. She notes that she likes that every day is different and dynamic. Andrea says that "I could spend my whole day working on one project and the next day on another; I'm always learning something new. More importantly, I like the mix of research and public outreach."
